Marking World Refugee Day in the field

Zagreb, 16 June 2010, as part of the World Refugee Day 2010 celebration programme, the UNHCR has invited representatives from donor countries Australia, US, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands as well as the Croatian Government to celebrate with the people and communities they have assisted in re-establishing their livelihoods.

The group, led by the UNHCR Representative in Croatia, Mr. Wilfried Buchhorn, will visit two NGO implementing projects in the Gracac and Lika areas and meet a successful returnee family in Raducic near Knin. The group will also meet other local civil society associations working in the Knin area as well as local authorities.

In the Zadar hinterlands, the UNHCR and donor country representatives will meet members of "Visnja" cooperative and Bosnian Croat settler representatives.

The UNHCR Representative and the representatives of donor countries will be available for the media in Kasic at 15.15 at the home of Mr Nikola Alavanja, the cooperative's president.
