UNHCR and Nordic Chamber of Commerce recognized the library as the focal point for young people in the wider Knin area and the necessity of its modernization and provision of new and interesting contents for the youth of this sensitive and war affected area.
On the occasion, the UNHCR Representative to Croatia, Mr. Wilfried Buchhorn greeted the students and their teachers and stated: "Today, we must provide the best possible education and access to information to our children, not only as an investment in their socio-economic future, but also as an investment in a new generation that will overcome the problems from the past and build a better future for this area, for Croatia and the entire region".
The Nordic Chamber of Commerce in Croatia, in cooperation with UNHCR, organized in June 2009, the celebration of the Nordic holiday Midsummer. The event was organized for the second year in a row in order to contribute to the further development and strengthening of cultural and economic bounds between Nordic countries and the Republic of Croatia, but also to promote Nordic culture and traditional values of this region in Croatia. According to the authentic Nordic tradition, Midsummer is one of the greatest holidays celebrated in all Nordic countries and originally serving as tribute to summer and awakening of a new cycle of life.

The event had a humanitarian character and all funds gathered from the sale of food, beverages and raffles were invested in the donation to the library. The Nordic Chamber of Commerce continues the tradition of organizing cultural-humanitarian events which are not only an opportunity for knowledge gathering and introducing new cultures and traditions, but also an opportunity to provide direct help and support to new generations in their education.
Cooperation between the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and UNHCR has once again achieved its humanitarian goal and handed over a donation that will improve, not only the quality of education for students in the wider Knin area, but will also help the social integration of students of different national and cultural origins.
